About our new summer Park & Ride service

This summer, enjoy visiting the city with less stress, less traffic, and more freedom. Our new summer Park & Ride service makes it easy, cheap and convenient to visit the city centre.

The Park & Ride service will operate from 9am to 9pm on key summer weekend dates:

• Saturday 25 July
• Sunday 26 July
• Sunday 2 August
• Sunday 9 August
• Sunday 16 August
• Saturday 22 August
• Saturday 29 August
• Sunday 30 August
• Monday 31 August

Park at the University of Sussex in Falmer, pay £6.50 for up to 5 adults per car, and hop on the bus every 12 minutes straight to the heart of Brighton. The bus will take you just minutes from the pier, the seafront, and the Lanes.

Whether you’re heading to the North Laine or just enjoying a seaside day out, Park & Ride is your smoothest way in and out of the city.

The summer Park & Ride is only for those driving to the site and parking. We'll be considering wider options in the future.

Outside of the advertised Park & Ride dates, the University of Sussex car park is not available for Park & Ride, and the dedicated bus service will not be running. Use standard city centre car parks outside of the Park & Ride dates. Find out more about our car parks.

Key details for the service

Cost: £6.50 per car for up to 5 adults.

Parking location: University of Sussex Car Park, Falmer, BN1 9RQ.

Bus destination: Brighton City Centre. You can use any stop on the 25 bus route. Use the Old Steine stop for the beach or the city centre or St. Peters Church for North Laine shops.

Bus frequency: Every 12 minutes.

Operating hours: 9am to 9pm, cars must be removed from the car park by 9pm.

If you return to your car after 9pm, you must pay any additional public parking tariffs for the length of your stay, or you may receive a Parking Charge Notice (PCN).

How the Park & Ride service works

We do not take advance bookings for Park & Ride, please turn up and pay on the day.

1. Drive to the Park & Ride site at the University of Sussex (BN1 9RQ). View the location on Google Maps.
2. Park your car as directed by stewards.
3. Pay £6.50 using PaybyPhone using the Park & Ride code displayed in the car park
4. Hop on the dedicated Park & Ride bus to Brighton city centre, which runs every 12 minutes.
5. Ride back to your car when you’re ready to leave – easy breezy.

Parking at the University of Sussex

The Park & Ride site is clearly signposted from the A27. View the site on Google Maps.

Our stewards will guide you to the car park. Park in Car Park 1. Parking elsewhere on site may incur a Parking Charge Notice.

Accessible toilets are available at the East Slope Bodiam Reception. There's limited parking here for blue badge holders only.

Parking for disabled drivers

There are a limited number of Blue Badge holder spaces. Please follow directions from stewards on site.

Blue Badge parking is free of charge. Blue Badges must be clearly displayed in your vehicle, and your vehicle registration number must also be provided to the University of Sussex within 48 hours of your visit. To provide your vehicle registration number:

There's no need to pay by PaybyPhone for Blue Badge parking. Blue badge holders can also park for free in the city centre using on-street disabled paid parking and shared parking disabled bays.

How to pay for Park & Ride

Park & Ride costs £6.50 for one car and all its passengers.

To pay using PayByPhone you can:

• use the PaybyPhone app on the App Store or Google Play
• phone 01273 785599
• visit the PayByPhone website
• You will need to quote the Park & Ride code displayed in the car park.

We recommend you download the app and register your car details before you travel.

PayByPhone applies a minimum 20p service charge per transaction.

You cannot pay on the bus, and holders of a concessionary bus pass cannot use their pass on the Park & Ride service. Failure to pay for parking may result in a Parking Charge Notice (PCN).

Bus stop locations and times

The departure bus stop is on Boiler House Hill and will be signposted from the car park. See the bus stop location on Google Maps.

The bus runs every 12 minutes and the bus journey takes approx 25 minutes to central Brighton.

You can catch the bus back from any stop on the 25 bus route. Use the Old Steine stop for the beach or the city center or St. Peters Church for North Laine shops.

Accessibility on the bus

Buses have:

• low-floor access with space for 2 wheelchairs
• dementia friendly flooring
• a hearing loop
• next-stop audio and visual announcements on both decks with a display in the wheelchair bay

Dogs on the bus

All dogs are welcome on the bus, although priority will be given to assistance dogs.

If you think you have lost something on the bus or in the car park, you can:

• complete a lost property form on the Brighton & Hove Buses website

Make sure you give details of the lost item(s). You can also collect lost items at the Travel Shop located at 27 North Street, Brighton, BN1 1EB.
