School Streets: King's School and West Blatchington Primary

We’re proposing to install a School Streets scheme at King's School and West Blatchington Primary.

School Streets are designed to address issues on the roads around schools at drop off and pick up times, including congestion, illegal or unsafe parking immediately outside of school.

The timed restrictions will be in place from Monday to Friday 8am-9am and 2.30pm-3.30pm term time only.

More information

We've included further information about School Streets, including exemptions and enforcement, in the first phase of this project.

You can also see a plan and details of the proposals in the survey phase description and in the survey.

We want to know what you think

This survey is open until Monday 20 July.

The survey will take around 10 minutes to complete. You can log in to Your Voice to automatically save your progress and return later to complete your submission.

We want to hear your views on the School Streets proposal for King's School and West Blatchington Primary.

A landscape-orientated map titled “School Streets Proposal – Kings School and West Blatchington Primary” showing a proposed School Streets traffic restriction area around the schools. The map uses a muted grey and white base map with roads and buildings lightly shaded, while the proposed restricted roads are highlighted in pale yellow.

In the top-right corner is a legend inside a bordered white box. The legend explains that roads highlighted in yellow represent the “School Streets closure area.” A red circular road sign icon with a car and motorcycle symbol indicates “No access to motor vehicles (unless exempt) during School Streets enforcement hours from this point. Regular access is permitted to motor vehicles at all other times.” A black bus icon indicates that existing bus stops and buses are exempt from restrictions.

The highlighted closure area forms a connected loop of residential streets surrounding the schools. The main highlighted road runs horizontally across the upper-middle part of the map from left to right, with several connecting residential streets branching downward and curving around the neighbourhood. Additional yellow-highlighted side streets extend southward and loop back eastwards, forming an enclosed network of restricted roads.

Three restriction entry points are marked with large red circular vehicle restriction signs:

One at the western entrance to the area on the left side of the map.
One at the northern entrance near the top-centre of the map.
One at the eastern entrance on the right side of the map.

Black bus icons appear at multiple points along the highlighted roads, indicating bus routes or exempt bus access through the restriction area.

Large school buildings are visible near the top-centre of the map, labelled “King’s School” and “West Blatchington Primary School.” Residential housing blocks surround the highlighted roads. A green wooded or park area spans the top edge of the map, while “Hangleton Park” is faintly labelled near the bottom-centre.

The overall purpose of the map is to illustrate the extent of proposed timed vehicle access restrictions around the schools and identify the points where motor vehicle restrictions would begin.

The plans include installing "no entry to unauthorised vehicles" signs at:

  • Hangleton Way between the southbound lane of Hardwick Road and the junction with Amberley Drive
  • Hardwick Road between the junction with Hangleton Way and the southbound lane of Hardwick Road

The site would be enforced by cameras at each sign location (3 in total).

The timed restrictions would be in place 8am to 9pm and 2.30pm to 3.30pm. The restrictions will not apply during school holidays or at the weekend.
