Have your say on overnight stays in camper vans and other vehicles

We’re asking for your views on a proposed Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) about people staying overnight in vehicles in public spaces across Brighton & Hove.

During a review, concerns were raised about some visitors using camper vans and other vehicles to stay overnight in public areas.

We’re now asking for your views on whether restrictions should be introduced.

What is this PSPO about?

The proposed PSPO would stop people from staying overnight in vehicles for recreational purposes in public spaces across Brighton & Hove.

The aim is to deal with problems linked to this type of activity and to help keep public spaces safe and enjoyable for everyone.

The rule would apply to people choosing to stay overnight in vehicles, such as camper vans. It would not apply to people who are homeless, rough sleeping or sleeping in a vehicle out of necessity.

Failure to comply

The PSPO would stop people from staying overnight in vehicles for recreational purposes in public spaces across the city.

If someone breaks this rule, they may get a £100 fixed penalty notice (FPN).
