Recreational camping in public spaces

We’re asking for your views on a proposed Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) about camping in public spaces across Brighton & Hove.

During a review, concerns were raised about people camping overnight in tents in public areas.

We’re now asking for your views on whether restrictions should be introduced.

What is this PSPO about?

The proposed PSPO would stop people from camping in tents for recreational purposes in public spaces across Brighton & Hove.

The aim is to address problems linked to this type of camping and help make sure public spaces are safe and can be enjoyed by everyone.

The restriction would apply to recreational camping only. It would not apply to people who are homeless, rough sleeping or sleeping in a tent out of necessity.

Failure to comply

The PSPO would stop people from camping in tents for recreational purposes in public spaces across the city.

If someone breaks this rule, they may get a £100 fine.
