New Homes for Neighbourhoods - Hereford Court car park redevelopment
Updated September 2025
The council is proposing to redevelop Hereford Court Car Park, to maximise the provision of new, high quality, affordable homes for Brighton & Hove residents who are on the council's housing register.
Brighton & Hove City Council's Architects team have led the design process, and submitted a planning application in August 2025.
The application requests permission to build 36 new one-bed flats, in a sheltered housing scheme for those aged 55+, and 17 one & two-bed flats for those with general needs.
The council ran an in-person and online consultation with the local community in July 2024, seeking feedback on initial design proposals.
This feedback helped inform design development. In August 2025 the council held in-person exhibitions to share the designs for the Planning application.
Please see Phase 3 - Planning period, for information about Planning's statutory consultation.
Phases
Pre-construction period
Once we have planning permission we will work to appoint a main contractor. Once appointed they will need to develop the planning approved designs in sufficient detail for the construction workers. There will also be the need to carry out detailed surveys and time is allowed for the workforce to be mobilised before works begin on the site.
