Updating our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy

We're consulting on a draft update to our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS).

An earlier version of this strategy was adopted in January 2016. This updated version reflects new and upcoming laws and includes the latest knowledge about climate change.

The draft strategy explains current flood risk challenges in the context of our growing thriving city, sets out planned work to reduce flooding, provides a long-term flood risk management plan and identifies the most important actions we need to take.

Strategy aims and objectives

The main goals of this strategy are to:

• reduce the risk of flooding to homes and buildings in Brighton & Hove
• deal with current flood risks while planning for future risks
• lead in managing and reducing flooding from local sources in our area
• improve our understanding of how flooding happens and how different types of flooding connect
• better understand catchment scale management of flood risk and how local scale changes impact downstream
• work with partners and local communities to make Brighton & Hove better able to cope with flooding
• support flood management approaches that also bring wider environmental and community benefits
