Safer, Better Streets - Elm Grove at Hampden Road and Bonchurch Road
We’re looking to improve the junctions with Hampden Road and Bonchurch Road as part of our Safer, Better Streets programme.
Every year we assess requests for safety improvements all over the city, using our 'Safer, Better Streets’ assessment process.
The proposed improvements at Hampden Road include:
- Upgrading the pedestrian crossing to a signalised crossing
- Widening the pavements around the mouth of Hampden Road to improve the pedestrian experience and shorten crossing distances
- New grass verges on either side of Elm Grove
- A rain garden to absorb excess rainfall
The proposed improvements at Bonchurch Road include:
- Improving accessibility by adding dropped kerbs and tactile paving
- Upgrading the island for use as a pedestrian crossing
We want to hear your views
The survey is open until 2 September 2024 and should take no more than 5 minutes to complete.
You can find more information on our Safer, Better Streets webpage, including how you can request a road safety improvement.
Phases
TRO (final chance to comment)
The changes planned for Elm Grove at the junctions with Hampden and Bonchurch do not require a full TRO (Traffic Regulation Order).
TROs are the legal documents behind the rules of the road. They allow us to enforce traffic and parking restrictions.
Instead, a Notice of Intention (NOI) will be displayed near the junction for 21 days.
The NOI will be displayed from 14th March to 4th April 2025.
