Comment on our draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment

Brighton & Hove Health and Wellbeing Board is carrying out a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) for 2025.

This is a report that looks at the current and future needs for pharmacy services in the city.

It helps to make sure that local people can access the right services, in the right place, now and in the future.

The PNA also helps NHS England, the council and the local health system decide when and where new pharmacies might be needed, and how current services could be improved.

Draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment

The draft PNA shows that pharmacy services are generally well provided across the city, with no current or future gaps identified.

It also includes feedback from residents who took part in an earlier survey, which asked about their experiences using local pharmacies.

You can read the draft PNA by downloading the PDF and complete the survey by pressing ‘take the survey’ .

Hearing your views

We’re  now in the second phase of the process and would like your views on the draft PNA.

While the survey is open to everyone, it’s aimed at health professionals and organisations with an interest in pharmacy services in Brighton & Hove. These include:

  • Local Pharmaceutical Committee
  • Local Medical Committee
  • Pharmacy contractors in Brighton and Hove
  • Healthwatch and other patient or community groups
  • NHS trusts, NHS England, and neighbouring Health and Wellbeing Boards

Phases

Phases overview

Public consultation

27 May 2025 - 28 July 2025

This is the second stage of the process for creating the Pharmacy Needs Assessment (PNA). In the first stage, residents were asked to complete a questionnaire about their experiences with local pharmacies and how easy it is to access them. The results from that questionnaire are included in the main PNA document.

Once this consultation ends, the feedback will be reviewed and added to the final 2025 PNA document, which will be published on the council’s website in October 2025.
