Illustration of a lively street and park scene. On the left, a person rides a bicycle past a coffee shop with a striped awning and an “OPEN” sign on the door. Two people are walking along the sidewalk, and another person is leaning over a blue baby stroller. To the right, a person is holding a drink while walking. In the background, a person is walking a dog in a grassy park area. Further right, two people sit on a bench near a lamppost and flowers, engaged in conversation. The scene is colorful and depicts everyday outdoor activities in a community setting.

Better Brighton & Hove fund

We're inviting residents to choose from a range of exciting ideas and projects to improve life in their wards.

Hundreds of ideas were submitted through the Better Brighton & Hove fund for suggesting how money raised from developer contributions should be spent to enhance council-owned spaces and community facilities across the city.

Almost £750,000 is available and we’re asking you to tell us how we should spend it!

Every ward in the city has at least £22,000 to spend

In wards where there has been more development, there is more money available. They are:

  • Brunswick and Adelaide - £22,466
  • Patcham and Hollingbury - £35,583
  • Rottingdean and West Saltdean - £87,110
  • West Hill and North Laine - £49,925
  • Westdene and Hove Park - £90,898
  • Wish - £76,125

Check which ward you live in on our website by entering your postcode if you're not sure.

How has the council got this money?

The money has been raised from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CILs) agreements made between the council and developers as part of the planning process.

Under the scheme, a percentage of the money raised from some new developments, such as homes, shops and student accommodation, can be used to improve amenities in the areas where building has taken place.

Choose your favourite ideas

14 April 2026 - 6 May 2026

You can now choose up to 5 of your favourite shortlisted projects in your area. Most wards have a wide range of proposals to choose from, requiring various amounts of funding.

The projects and ideas that residents select as their favourites will give ward councillors a clear idea of which projects are most popular. The ideas with the most votes may not always be chosen. Ward councillors will make the final decision based on what's possible, what offers good value for money and what best reflects local priorities.
