Before and after school childcare

We want to hear from parents and carers in Brighton & Hove!

The government is funding local authorities to develop before and after school childcare, also known as wraparound care, for primary school children.

Before and after school childcare is available on either side of the school day from 8am to 6pm during term time.

We’re working with schools and childcare providers to introduce or expand childcare across the city.

If you’re the parent or carer of children aged 0 to 4 and want to use breakfast or after school care in the future or already have children in primary school, we want to hear from you.

Your views will help us plan for current and future demand.

The survey is open until Friday 7 June and should take no more than 5 minutes to complete.

Background information

14 May 2024 - 15 May 2024

The government is funding local authorities to develop wraparound childcare for primary school children.

This is to support families who need before and after school care for their children so they can access employment.

Introducing and expanding wraparound care

Schools and childcare providers will receive start-up funding to introduce or expand childcare provision on either side of the school day. Parents of primary school aged children will be able to pay to access.

The wraparound programme will focus on primary school-aged children, from reception to year 6 during term time. It does not include provision in the school holidays or at weekends.

Parents and carers in Brighton & Hove

By understanding where, when and how often childcare is needed before and after the school day, we can design our programme to support parents, carers and children.

If you don't use the these services, we'd like to know what barriers, if any, are stopping you from using childcare.

We're also surveying schools and other providers to gauge the current supply of childcare across Brighton & Hove.
