Ted Davis2 months ago There is no doubt that Hove Lawns is drawing a lot of income from big events, yet the surrounding areas in Brunswick Town are totally run down. Any improvements that have been made are completely down to the local groups through volunteer hours and fundraising. We see this looking at Palmeira and Adelaide gardens, also Brunswick gardens. I propose that funding is used to restore and paint the Adelaide ramps and balustrades. These are grade 2* listed council assets, and are in a terrible state of repair. When the many concerts and marathons are held on Hove Lawns, this wall in effect become bleacher seats, and become more damaged as a direct result of the events. They are not intended for people to stand and dance on, yet when there are concerts and the marathons run, that is exactly what happens. For this reason, I think money from events should be used to repair and improve this heritage infrastructurei expect the cost would be upwards of £15,000, and increases each year they are neglected. And damaged further.

Ted Davis3 months ago The number and size of events in the city's public green spaces are becoming too frequent and are disrespectful so many aspects. Things like damage to greens, like the Pavilion skating rink means the area is closed off for months afterwards.Events in spaces like Hove Lawns are becoming too frequent, and too large. The Marathon was out of scale for the Lawns,, and much damage is done to the grass and local assets. I understand these events mean more income for the city, but they quickly overshadow the heritage elements of the city and erode the heritage infrastructure,, which is one of the longer lasting elements to why Brighton is so special. The Pavilion Gardens should never have been added to an At Risk Register, and places like Hove Lawns will quickly become At Risk if the council keep on chucking massive events there. Current council leaders and Events officers seem to simply ignore residents concerns, and the so called public consultations are a joke. Organised last minute so no one can attend, and any concerns just scoffed at.

Ted Davis8 months ago Adelaide Crescent recently had a bench removed that was easily repairable. While one section of the bench was cracked, the remains of it were perfectly fine and a repair could have been done at low cost. Instead the entire bench was removed and not replaced. The bench was paid for by the local residents association originally. I request a new bench is installed in Adelaide Crescent on the Lower East side, or the old bench repaired and re-instated.

Ted Davis8 months ago To construct and build a set of steps facilitating safe entry into Adelaide Gardens. When the Council Rangers built an informal pathway leading from Palmeira Square South into the road to access bins, it developed another very popular desire path adjacent leading into Adelaide Crescent gardens.The Friends of Palmeira and Adelaide Residents Association (FOPA) proposes a project to create a formal, safer entrance from the pavement into Adelaide Crescent Gardens, currently accessed via an informal and hazardous gap in the hedge involving parked cars, a low wall, and a steep slope. A possible plan, includes installing steps, possibly adding a dropped kerb, and altering a small section of the garden wall. This improvement would enhance safety, accessibility, and the visitor experience within the locally listed heritage site and Brunswick Town Conservation Area, while supporting wider council goals around walkability and sustainable travel. Building a proper handled staircase into the gardens would remove the many hazards that hundreds of pedestrians encounter by using the path daily.
