Michael Jenkins8 months ago In Hollingbury, we have the Carden Park, within the Carden Park is the Carden Park Nature Reserve, where in recent years, there has been the wonderful tree planting project. Also within the Carden Park Nature Reserve is a sole surviving area of ancient flowering chalk grassland, of about 30 ten-metre squares, which is beautiful in the summer, with its meadow fescue grass and very pretty dropwort flowers and butterflies and bumblebees. Very sadly, this ancient flowering chalk grassland is gradually being lost to scrub, mainly, hawthorn, dogwood, wild rose, and brambles. Very helpfully, this fund could help to pay for, a tree care contractor company, to come in, to work hard, in order to patiently perseveringly carefully dig out all the scrub trees, and save this area of ancient flowering chalk grassland, for the Hollingbury home population to enjoy in nature walks. What I believe is needed: (1) Is a team of 2 men to work 8-10 days, or a team of 4 men to work 4-5 days. (2) To work in pairs, to carefully lift, with strong garden forks, the root crowns of the scrub trees, then to carefully cut all the roots, with a cutting tool, or a strong sharpened spade, in order to lift the whole root crown from the ground, without disturbing too much, the fine sward of meadow fescue grass. I have already asked CityParks, please can they do this conservation project, and they said, they have no resources.
