A small package of community-focused street improvements in the Fiveways area

Simon Barrett•2 months ago To support both businesses and residents, they would like to explore the installation of: A community business notice board for local events, services, and neighbourhood information A public bench to provide seating, particularly for older residents and those less able to stand for long periods Seasonal hanging baskets to enhance the appearance of the area and create a more welcoming high street environment Currently, there is no shared physical space for businesses and the community to communicate locally. A notice board would help promote local events, encourage people to shop locally, and strengthen neighbourhood identity. A bench would improve accessibility and inclusivity, while hanging baskets would contribute to civic pride and a greener, more attractive streetscape.

Road narrowing/pavement size increase at Clifton Terrace/Dyke Road junction

Simon Barrett•2 months ago The width of Clifton Terrace at the junction onto Dyke Road is incredibly wide, making crossing take more time and be more dangerous, especially with Dyke Road being quite a busy road. The width of the road and wide corners also encourages drivers not to slow down when entering/exiting the junction, making accidents more likely and crossing more dangerous.

Road narrowing/pavement size increase at Powis Road/Clifton Hill junction

Simon Barrett•2 months ago Currently there is a huge gap to cross at Powis Road, when people are using the pavement along the south side of Clifton Hill. This makes it less safe for children, the elderly, and disabled pavement users in particular, and the wide corners also make it easier for drivers to enter/exit Powis Road without slowing down, making crossing around this area even more dangerous. Widening the pavements and narrowing the road would make it safer for everyone, and could even create space for more trees, cycle parking/hangars/etc

Bike Lane Traffic Lights on Kings Road/Canon Place Junction

Simon Barrett•2 months ago The road markings show that cyclists travelling east to west using the segregated bike lane, are able to continue moving forward at the first set of traffic lights at this junction, even when the lights are red. However, many cyclists do not realise this and I have seen on multiple occasions people almost crash into each other because the person in front has stopped when they don't need to. Adding bike lane traffic lights to this set of traffic lights would make it clearer that cyclists can continue on, make accidents less likely, and allow smoother journeys by bike. It would probably be sensible to also add lights to the pedestrian crossing immediately after, to make it clear that these lights should still be obeyed.

Additional planters along Elm Grove

Simon Barrett•2 months ago At the western end, there are some planters that do a good job of improving the look and feel of that section. As a medium term measure, doing the same further up would go a long way

Bavant Road - 2 new street trees

Simon Barrett•2 months ago Can these 2 trees be added to the Preston Park CiL applications please? They are for Bavant Road and the residents have already raised £2500 towards funding for the trees but Ben Galley from the arb team has said that they need a further amount to realise the full cost of buying 2 trees, paying for 3 years watering and one tree pit. Ben has already checked the area and has assessed the cost. So, for Tree 1: Cost of tree, planting & 3 years of aftercare : £1000, in addition to what the group have raised). Tree 2: Cost of tree, planting & 3 years of aftercare + cost of tree pit: £3500. This has been submitted by Jen Eneke on behalf of Bavant Road residents.

Inner pathways in Preston Park

Simon Barrett•2 months ago whilst the outer pathways/road of the park may have a budget to get them resurfaced, the inner pathways do not. These pathways are used daily by walkers, runners, cyclists of all ages. They are now dangerous and need attention. Can funds be found to do this.
