Zebra crossing of Freshfield Road

From "Better Brighton & Hove fund"

Go to the project

This crossing is currently a refuge island but for many years the local community have been campaigning for it to be upgraded to a zebra crossing. This has been acknowledged by the council by placing it high on the list for Safer Better Streets. Funding would help deliver this after 20 years of delays.

Many pupils and their families cross Freshfield Rd here every day to get to St Luke's Primary. The location is currently hazardous due to a combination of busy and speeding traffic.

Installing a zebra crossing could be accompanied by additional measures such as a raised bus stop in Queens Park Terrace and SUDS on the corner to improve drainage during heavy rain

I support this proposal as traffic calming very much needed in Freshfield Road.

I very much support this proposal, much needed, long overdue, sensible idea.
I fully support this proposal as this badly designed crossing made it impossible for my son to walk to school unaccompanied whilst attending St Luke’s Primary. Cars race up and down Freshfield Road at all hours of the day, paying no heed to signs or road markings. High sided vehicles park so close to the crossing at the top of Cuthbert Road that I often have to step into the road to check for oncoming traffic - traffic which is usually exceeding the speed limit. Considering this is a crossing used to get to a primary school, by families with small children and babies in buggies, I am astounded that we are still having to convince the council of the community’s need for a safer crossing.
I fully support the proposal of a zebra crossing in Freshfield Road, long overdue.
            Absolutely needs a crossing!
Fully support this proposal. The current situation is so dangerous, especially given the road layout and the careless parking of those at the Albion community hub. Delivery drivers often park across the crossing making it impossible to cross safely

This is greatly needed. I cross this road daily with my baby in a buggy and it feels very dangerous!

Absolutely. People are always speeding on that road and it’s not easy to see both sides clearly. With a buggy, it’s really dangerous.
