Parklet on Tidy Street

From "Better Brighton & Hove fund"

Go to the project

Parklets are what happens when parking spaces are transformed into a community space, e.g. with benches, seats, planters, etc. They challenge the idea that kerbside space is only for car storage. A residential parklet can be used both as a resting point for people, and a play area for children.

A resident on Tidy Street would like to green the area where he has lived for over 20 years. When he first moved to the area it was mainly a retail area. Traffic less frequent and the streets were much quieter. Now, the area is much busier, with noisy vehicles regularly parking on the pavement right outside the entrance to his property.

This resident is also a keen gardener and would love to support with the upkeep of this new addition to the street.

Further up Trafalgar St there is the entrance to Kemp St, where the street had been narrowed, which may have been due to traffic calming. It would suggest that it is possible to narrow the entrance to Tidy St slightly with planters for a parklet so that traffic can still enter the road, while also helping to green the area.

Please work with ward councillors to support this project.
