Increase in noisy events in Preston Park

Dear Deborah Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. We appreciate that living close to events can sometimes be challenging. While Pride itself takes place over two days, the additional day you refer to was a separate standalone concert rather than part of the Pride festival. The use of consecutive event days allows the infrastructure already installed on site to be shared between events, reducing the need for additional build and break periods. The intention is to limit the overall duration of set-up and dismantling activity, and maintain more everyday use of the park, although we recognise that this does not remove the impact of event noise for nearby residents. The event taking place at Preston Park this weekend was the Magic of Thailand Festival. We have noted your location and your feedback that noise from the event was audible at Beaconsfield Villas, and that you feel that overall the number of event days that sound travel reaches you has increased. All major events are subject to licensing requirements and noise management measures, and feedback from local residents plays an important role in helping us understand how events are experienced beyond the immediate vicinity of the park. The events programme generates significant income that helps support essential council services and facilities across Brighton & Hove, as well as the wider benefits to businesses & employment in the city. However, we recognise that these benefits must be balanced against the impact events can have on local residents, and this remains an important consideration in the planning and review of events.
