Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding the condition of Hove Park following the recent Live at Hove Park event.
We understand your concerns about the impact the event had on the park. While the wet weather experienced during the final day undoubtedly contributed to the deterioration of ground conditions, we recognise that residents expect event organisers and the council to take appropriate steps to minimise damage to this valued community space.
The event infrastructure has now been removed and the organiser is responsible for the full cost of reinstatement. Repair works are scheduled to commence on 21 September, with barriers being installed around damaged sections to protect the ground and support recovery, helping the grassed areas recover as effectively and quickly as possible. The council will continue to monitor the reinstatement programme to ensure the park is restored to an appropriate condition.
We appreciate that this process can take time and understand the frustration caused while parts of the park remain unavailable for everyday use. Unfortunately, where significant damage has occurred, reseeding and other restoration measures are often necessary to ensure a successful long-term recovery.
Hove Park is an important and well-loved public space, and we recognise the temporary loss of access and amenity experienced by local residents. Please be assured that all feedback received forms part of our post-event review process, including an assessment of site protection measures, event management arrangements and reinstatement requirements.
We take environmental protection and the care of our parks very seriously. As part of our ongoing review process, we continually assess the effectiveness of ground protection measures, identifying what works well and where improvements may be possible.
Every event presents different challenges, with ground conditions influenced by factors such as weather and site conditions both before and during the event. These considerations are taken into account when planning events and reviewing outcomes afterwards.
Your comments regarding the need for stronger preventative measures will be considered as part of future event reviews. While events can bring significant cultural, community and economic benefits to the city, we recognise the importance of balancing these benefits with the protection of our parks and open spaces. We therefore continually review the suitability of event locations and the mitigation measures organisers are required to put in place before, during and after events to minimise impacts on local communities and the environment.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your concerns.
