Palmeira Square re-landscaping project

An exciting new project to re-landscape the north part of Palmeira Square started in September 2025.

Working in partnership with the Friends of Palmeira and Adelaide (FOPA), we’re delivering an attractive landscape design that will be more suited to contemporary needs, while reflecting the heritage of the square, and celebrating its surrounding architecture and sea views.

A public consultation on the proposals was open from August 2025 to September 2025. The results of this last consultation showed strong support for the proposed changes, with 59% of those responding in favour of the redesigned landscaping and planting.

Work taken place so far

We worked with the Friends of Palmeira and Adelaide Residents Association and delivered exciting improvements in March 2026.

The new Mediterranean influenced, pollinator friendly planting is now establishing well. It reflects the historic linear design of the gardens, our coastal climate and our commitment to sustainability and biodiversity.

New feature at Palmeira Square

We're now inviting residents and garden users to tell us their preferred option for a new feature to replace the Floral Clock. Palmeira Square is an important focal point for the local community, and your feedback will directly shape what happens next.

Thank you to everyone who gave their feedback in this initial phase of consultation. Following your input we have updated the landscape design and planted new colourful, Mediterranean-inspired, pollinator-friendly flower beds.
